are simple and fun, especially when you dip them. Tightly wrap the
contents to avoid losing it out the ends. Alternately, you can have use
all of the sauce on the sprouts for a wet wrap. Wet wraps benefit from
folding over the bottom to avoid leakage and is easiest with the version
described without the wrap leaf's rib removed.
You don't need to have the same cabbage or sprouts I grew. You can
substitute any other large leafed greens for the cabbage and other
sprouts or salad for my sprouts. Also, feel free to use your own sauce
instead.

making a row of fillings across the short length of the wrapper

length). Start row with any strips (like tomato and/or avocado)
arranging each end to end (or slightly overlapping) along the length of
row (beside each other if more than one thing in strips). Next add the

I love growing them and eating them..and a whole lot more.

One of the top reasons I love growing my own food is being able to grow
things I want to eat, and especially things I wouldn't be able to have
access to otherwise.

Cabbage leaves harvested from my garden yesterday.

Case in point: the cabbage leaves I harvested yesterday. Believe it or
not: these two leaves are the smaller leaves from a plant I have
basically neglected for a while! (It is on an automatic drip watering
system).

They are an open leaved variety that is simply beautiful to me, grows
well where I am, rarely gets spicy hot (if ever), is bolt resistant (so
does not go to seed fast and I can keep harvesting for longer), and is
great for wrappers in wraps (or chopped in ways cabbage is often used).

Another example: the top pic here is "Janie" created by arranging
"Armenian" Cucumbers I grew last year (and a tomato for the dot). Yes!
They did grow in those shapes all by themselves (no coaxing or training
or manually bending or anything). They made lots of great meals.

Plants are amazing!!

Of course there are SO many other reasons as well, like: there's no way
to have food fresher than fresh picked (or even eaten straight off the
plant if you feel like it!); reduces needs for you to go somewhere to
buy the things you grow and the need for those things to be transported
to where you would buy them (eco-friendly, time-saving, and
budget-friendly all in one!); you know what conditions they have grown
in (and you can do something about that directly); it covers many of the
elements of health all at the same time (fresh air, sunshine, movement,
nature, nurture, creativity, sense of accomplishment, etc).

I could go on and on with all the benefits, but I'll stop at that.

As the readers of my blog know, there have been times when we had
organic farms where we grew produce for a living, and other times when I
had a garden in my yard.

I have also had times when I went on long hiking and/or camping trips
where I grew some fresh things on the go. When we were full-timing it in
our RV travel trailer around the US Mainland I had a couple long
planters with herbs and some baby greens, occasionally settling in a
place where I could garden in the ground for a while too.

My latest foray has been experimenting with gardening in a semi-arid high desert in the Southwest.

Until we figured out irrigation. the seasons, and the weather extremes,
the only things I planted were in pots and doing sprouts.

While growing sprouts doesn't check off as many of the elements of
health as growing other plants, it does a lot of them, and is a great
place to start if you have interest in trying this out.

Warning: it could lead to other more seriously addictive and joyful gardening behaviors! ;)

Like the cabbage leaves in my pic, the sprouts I grow are ones I want to eat and wouldn't have access to otherwise.

If you are up for trying growing your own sprouts you should know that I
am in the process of completing a mini video course on growing sprouts
with me. This can be the first step toward growing more of your own
food. I will send out another email with the details when it's ready.

In the next post, enjoy this recipe of what I made last night with
freshly harvested homegrown: very large cabbage leaf (pictured),
sprouts, and herbs.

Jungle Janiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06146873964335696708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6910790018481206386.post-76082230661286966812022-12-30T10:49:00.017-10:002023-05-18T09:53:28.014-10:00Holiday Recipe Video: My Take on Fig Cake (Pan de Higo)
My take on a recipe traditionally served at Christmas is an easy, simple, and quick healthy low-fat raw vegan gluten-free holiday recipe which also follows the food combining principles of Natural Hygiene and 80/10/10.

I make half of the recipe without machines, and the other half with a food processor. It has my food along with other stuff too and is kind of an update. Not so much about my thoughts as this blog, but I thought you might enjoy it as a change of pace. ;) It takes you from waking to sleeping (mostly) and includes: my food for the day, some garden activities, nutrient breakdowns, birds, bees, a butterfly, and more. Darrel and I were driving around the US Mainland for a couple years, then got stuck in Washington during pandemic lockdowns, etc. I gardened some up there in the Pacific Northwest for a while. We have been in the Southwest for a couple years now, and are gardening in the Semi-Arid High Desert. I have videos and things ready for release soon, just finishing more of them first. There will be an update to where I am, what I am doing, and so forth.

Variations from what I had been doing:

I have not been getting as much sunshine or exercise as I did in Hawaii. More on why another time. I am working that back into my life more now, however I have some injuries that I need to compensate for at times. This is a retro-log, as I am putting it in during October, rather than when it happened. I picked a few days that I have pics of food saved to add in this way. I have not been tracking my exercise as well as my food, so have omitted the exercise section for now. I will try to start tracking it better, at least on the days I blog here.. but not starting right away... maybe November. I want to finish videos and other content I plan to share with y'all first.

I am post-menopausal now, so don't track my basal body temperature anymore, so that section is now omitted.

I am still the joyful gal y'all know. I am still doing 811rv, depending on how you define it. For convenience and availability I include pasteurized carrot juice and pasteurized lemon juice (even though I know it has been heated too much to be considered raw by most) in many of my blended evening meals. As in older posts here I still include frozen fruits (sometimes greens), and dehydrated/freeze dried fruits and veggies at times, which some would consider raw and others wouldn't. I do not eat salt, but do track my sodium intake along with other nutrients. Yes, I am back to tracking not just macros, but also the micros as well.

I also am taking a few supplements at this point, and will add a supplement section to my logs later. I discovered in
2020 I had a vitamin D deficiency for I don't know how long as it was
never tested before, and I had been extremely sun-sensitive for most of my life. 811rv helped with that and I got more sunshine and exercise than ever in Hawaii. Then we were on the road for a couple years, and were stuck up where and when not enough sunshine for vitamin D.. I could go on about how I think it happened later, but no time
right now. It will be a FAQ video probably. I actually had to ask to be
tested, and did so because I had symptoms that indicated it. So I have been supplementing with D3 along with
sunshine (when weather permits). The deficiency was
corrected by sometime in 2021, but I am still taking some and monitoring
my levels off an on. I believe I still don't get enough sunshine and conversion of sunshine to vitamin D becomes more difficult as one ages and hormones change, etc.

I got more extensive testing and found out
that while I was getting plenty of Magnesium and Omega 3's in my diet, I
might need to get them in a different form. I seem to not be absorbing
the Omega 3's properly, and while I am absorbing the Magnesium properly I
seem to be using it all up somehow anyway.

Even though my B12 levels
and Homocystine levels have always been fine according to the reference
ranges whenever tested, I have been taking a little B12 for the last
year to raise that a little further to see if that helps with things
that the vitamin D deficiency affected. I will go into those things more another time.

And lastly, while my diet should
have enough zinc in it, I am taking a very small amount of zinc, as the
soil and water where I am is alkaline which affects the plants' ability
to absorb zinc. That zinc supplement also has copper and iodine in it,
but not enough iodine for the RDA. Iodine is actually something that I may not be getting enough of, and I have some iodine level tests scheduled to find out. It is difficult to determine how much iodine is in our foods since some soils have it and others don't, then there's the ability for the plants to uptake and absorb it... so most nutritional tracking data is not reliable in that way, if they even have iodine measured at all.

Since as far back as 2013 (maybe longer, don't remember) I have had what seemed like a tiny somewhat prominent adam's apple equivalent as it would go up and down when I swallowed. My sternum has always been prominent, no matter what I weighed, so it seemed maybe that was the same with my neck. Over the years when seeing a healthcare prof. they would sometimes look in that area like they were looking for potential thyroid issues or anything odd.. and they never seemed concerned about it or even mentioned it, nor did I. My blood/urine for thyroid issues always tested fine. Fast forward to last month when someone was concerned and ordered an ultrasound. Turns out it is what is called a nodule on my thyroid. It is very small and has not changed size as far as I know. It is not considered a type or size to be enough risk of cancer or anything for mainstream docs to do anything about or test any further. So.. knowing that iodine is an unknown in my diet I asked to get my iodine levels checked to see if maybe I need to supplement more than the tiny amount in the zinc supplement. I would only supplement up to the RDA if it turns out my levels are low, and don't want to take it just in case because it is one that is supposed to be a problem (with your heart I believe) if you supplement too much... I'll let ya' know how that turns out.

K, gotta' go! Went into some details a bit more than planned.

Jungle Janiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06146873964335696708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6910790018481206386.post-54897756188943517562019-01-29T07:50:00.000-10:002019-01-29T08:45:38.885-10:00Food and Exercise Log 1-28-19Sleep:

I'm in Arizona and not growing my food currently, so it's grocery stores and mail deliveries for now. The post office and where I pick up deliveries is the same area I grocery shop at stores, so it's about the same. I try to consolidate the trips to shop as infrequently as possible, and it's been working out well. I've been finding more and more organic produce, and more and more variety, so that's awesome!

What did I get at the stores, and which stores did I find it? Well, here ya' go:

Sleep:
awake at 7:45am, up at 8:30am
to sleep for night last night at: 11:30pm

Food:
breakfast: 6 (or 7?) organic California Page mandarins
lunch: 9 Fuyu persimmons (3 lbs)
dinner: TBD -- probably a mandarin or two, followed by salad of: head of green cabbage cut into ribbons with dressing of tahini, lemon, carrot juice, freeze dried kale powder ... and maybe some partially dehydrated summer squash slices on the side or with the dressing as dip (possibly dipping "baby" carrots too) ... and maybe some carrot juice afterward

I've been eating persimmons pretty much every day for a while now. They are SO delicious, and they store really well here, so I can get over a month's worth at a time, which I absolutely love! They hold up well without refrigeration and are a terrific staple or back-up because they're the kind that you can eat whether they are hard or soft. I got a great deal on them at CostCo in California when Darrel and I were there last.

I've been eating all raw, actually since my last post, coincidentally. LOL

Exercise:
20+ mins on rebounder/mini-trampoline before breakfast
incline pushups and squats before lunch
rest of day TBD -- probably some exercises with resistance band before dinner, and some stretching before bed

I'm going light on the exercise for a bit right now, so none of this is high intensity today.

The Rest:
Well.. lots to catch up on. I'm currently in the boondocks of a remote area in Arizona--Surprise! I actually have a video from several months ago with an update that I never published for some reason. I think it's because I mentioned a page and links for giving gifts that I never made.

ANYway... maybe I'll finish the gift page and actually post that soon. In the meantime, I'll post here every once in a while.
I'm actively trying to finish the products I've mentioned I'm doing from time to time... so *fingers crossed* I will be able to actually sort all the content into things that actually make sense together, lol. My main trouble is scope creep with these things, followed by a realization that it's just too long, then overwhelm with editing it down and figuring out how to break things up into different items. So it goes...

It feels different this time. I think I'll actually get something released soon... and, of course, I'll let you know as soon as it's ready! :) :)

Also, I just may get to the rebuild of this site soon too... exciting times! :)

Aloha!
Think this is the night I made a kind of salsa chutney ish thing one of these two nights. It was 3/4 of a fruity avocado mashed a bit still chunky, some minced chives, 2 roma tomatoes chopped, and a touch of lemon juice. I started eating it with celery, but then Darrel started eating his guacamole which makes his breath bother me if I don’t have some. It's raw vegan so I will put some in my stuff sometimes so his breath doesn't bother me.

I added some to mine and decided to put that in dried nori sheets in a row lengthwise with a stick of celery lengthwise across as well before rolling it and eating it.
Today was a big birding day for me: spent morning on state-wide nene survey, then the rest of the day doing photo review and writing up observations of a moorhen nest from the motion detection camera's SD card I got from an intern. So interesting! Love all of it! :)

Darrel went to farm today to see if there was anything new to harvest, and discovered more theft and vandalism. :( They cut our starfruit tree so severely that it might not survive. 😓 It had the best starfruit I have ever tasted... was planted from a tree that had the best starfruit I had ever had previously. I hope it survives. ❤ It really sucks to not be able to live at the farm right now at times like this.

I am encouraged overall though, as we have plans and are gradually making progress to get back to it again. ❤❤

In the meantime, I'm so grateful I can help out at the refuges being in and with nature and making a difference there. It's wonderful to meet others who care about these things too. :) 🌞👍

Darrel and I spent time to try out Agile Scrum framework for figuring out our life in the next year, in order to help prioritize all the things we were feeling need to be done, feel driven to do and/or have deadlines to finish before we go to the FoodnSport retreats in September. It really helped! Yay! :)

Hearts of romaine head lettuce
3 large roma tomatoes
Mustard (not ideal)

Darrel had something with a lot of mustard on it and I decided to have some mustard too. I wedged the roma tomatoes lengthwise, and placed them on the lettuce leaves lengthwise, then put a bit of mustard down the length of that, folded the leaves over the top and ate them that way. It hit the spot. Mustard is not ideal because of its spiciness, but it's one of the exceptions I have been making over the last few years rarely, and occasionally.

1/2 pound baby lettuce spring mix with olive oil and spices on it (not ideal, but tasty)
1-2 tablespoons tahini with lemon juice as spread onto dried nori sheets (not ideal) wrapped around small wedges of roma tomatoes (2 large)

Yeah, too much fat for one day, more than one type of fat, oil and spices, and nori all are not my ideal. I realized that and decided it was acceptable enough for me, and I don't regret it.

I felt like having the mix spiced like I used to spice popcorn, so I did, and ate it like that. Call it my rarely-occassionally thing. I have been overt fat free for a while, so the amount of fat is acceptable to me. It averages out and the effects were minimized by not having excess overt fats like that more than one day in a row.

I've sucked at keeping any regular posting here in quite some time.

It hasn't kept me from thinking about you all, in fact you've been on my mind a LOT, for years. Still, I haven't gotten into the swing of this again yet.

Sometimes I just have a photo, sometimes I have a description, sometimes a thought, sometimes something nifty to share, sometimes I'm actually up for tracking my food as well.. but not always all at the same time, on schedule.

Life happens. And it's been happening in oh, so many varied ways.

I'd love to share it with you.

I'd love to get back in touch and hear from you as well. Let's catch up.

I have so many interests, and things to share in so many areas, that I think maybe I should try to different websites for them, or maybe different sections on this site.. and then I get bogged down in trying to organize it all that I don't get to the actual sharing.

I've decided to turn over a new leaf and just go ahead and start sharing stuff as it comes up. Since I'm not sure it all makes sense for this site as it's currently organized, I figure I'll make it a mailing list instead.

You'll need to opt-in to the mailing list to get most of the content. Whatever makes sense to be shared here, I'll try to post here too (no promises though). What I can promise is that if I do post things here, I'll include links to them in the mailing list.. but not vice versa.

So, you're probably wondering, "what's this mailing list actually going to be about?"

Well... in short, it's a grab bag of info and sharing from me.

I'll be sharing tips, tricks, observations, musings, how-to's (food, ambiance, lifestyle, gardening, and more), challenge opportunities (to participate with me), and what-have-you about things I'm interested about and/or doing in my life that you might be interested in and/or doing yourself.

I plan to at some point organize it into subject areas that you can specifically opt into and out of.. and do them ahead of time so they can also have them delivered on a regular basis.. but really, who knows when that will happen exactly? Life happens, and I won't make promises before it is done.

So for now, it's all going to be fairly random--subject-wise and frequency-wise, at least until I get back into the swing of sharing regularly again. So.. if you like grab bags, you'll love this.

Sign up now and you'll start getting emails... well, randomly! ;)

I'm also working on finishing my books, videos, classes, etc. and have some free stuff for people when they sign up for the list later. I'll send a link to get the free stuff to the mailing list too, so you won't miss out by signing up early.

I can't send you links to free stuff offered before you signed up though, so you'll want to sign up as soon as possible. I don't want you to miss out on any of it.

There's just SO much I've got in the works, and I don't want you to miss the opportunity to receive or participate in any of it.

ANY,way.. that's what's new, and what I'm excited about right now. I hope you are too! :)

I look forward to interacting with you more soon! :)

I'll do an update and all another time.

For now I'm just gonna' start back into this as I can...

(UPDATED 6/11/17)

Here's food for 6-6-17, didn't measure it.

coconut water on the go

apricots followed by sugar snap peas at Safeway seating for lunch with Darrel
some mixed color "baby" carrots on the go

salad of: baby lettuce mix dressed with blended frozen mango and 3 chopped fresh roma tomatoes

1 large mammey sapote

Here's food for 6-7-17:

3 cups fresh squeezed juice from local navel oranges
(1 cup I drank straight-up, while blending the other 2 cups with about 2 1/2 cups frozen strawberries: this yielded about 4 cups smoothie)

I took photos of the steps of this and the food for the rest of the day (and next day). I will post them later, along with a recent Food for the Week-ish photo.

7 apple bananas

2 Hearts of Romaine heads of lettuce
4 mixed color carrots
3 large roma tomatoes

Here's food for 6-8-17:

juice of 10 oranges, and some of their sections
frozen strawberries blended with some of the OJ

mountain apples and golden figs from our yard - Yay!

52 large lychee
Mixed color "baby" carrots and celery for after dinner snack/dessert

Yeah, I like celery as a dessert, because dessert comes after the meal, and it's nice for cleaning the palate and teeth just by eating it. So, it's often a dessert for me when I have it.

Didn't eat these today, but did photograph:
Peeled and chopped some apple bananas for smoothies or frozen creamy goodness another day.

Here's food for 6-9-17:

coconut water on the go

mountain apples and a golden fig from our yard

fresh squeezed juice from local navel oranges, and most of the sections out of the sqeezed oranges
1 heart of romaine head of lettuce
3 large roma tomatoes

A friend from the FoodnSport retreats arrived today with her sweetie, and they're staying with us for a few days before going camping. It was really nice to reconnect.

Here's food for 6-10-17:

water from 2 large coconuts from our yard - Yay!

1 medium tuscan melon

3 mango I picked up from under trees the day before, 5 adolfo mango from store

LOL, I don't remember what else, or if there was anything else.. didn't photograph this one. I think there wasn't anything more this day though.

Here's food for 6-11-17:

mountain apples from my yard

watermelon
lychee and white sugarloaf pineapple at fruitluck

mountain apples again
a couple of celery sticks as dessert

Yeah, there was a fruitluck/potluck today, and I wasn't hosting it either. Woo-hoo! And actually most of the people there were into or knowledgeable about 80/10/10 - sweet! :)

Between conversations about community, sustainability, homesteading, travel, minimalism, and more with the friends staying with us, to going to the potluck/fruitluck, today ended up being quite a fun and social day.

I even got productive before and afterward by setting up the mailing list sign up form and blogging to you about it as well. Yay! :)

I'll try to start doing videos again soon, no promises though.

I've missed you all and look forward to catching up more soon! :)

In the meantime, and always...

Enjoy the Journey!

Aloha!

Darrel and I went to the Mayor-A-Thon today. It was fun! :)

It's a community events put on by the county, and heavily sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, Gieko, and local businesses.

It's not a race, more like a fitness and social family event.

You pick the length you go: anywhere up to 8 miles. They have turn around points marked for various lengths. You can run, walk, bike, roller blade on the cement path that goes along the shoreline.

We walked and ran this time...I think it was 4-7 miles, not sure...didn't pay attention to length, was noting time to turn around in order to get back for prizes and zumba. We were out on the path for 2 hours. They have contests like hula hoop, cooperative group teams, etc for prizes...and drawings for other prizes...and zumba... and food served (yes, including fruit usually).. all free.

Pretty nifty. I got and ate the longan and banana there. I had the OJ on the drive into the event.

Then we went home and changed clothes for fieldwork at the refuge. I drank some coconut water then. We were out walking the field solid for a bit over an hour. There were no sick or dead birds, so it was a good day. :)

Then we went home again and I had the papaya and mountain apples.

**At dinner Darrel and I split a large pineapple, and he steamed some frozen broccoli and cauliflower in one level and frozen spinach and almonds on another. I ate my apple, date, celery dish while he had his food with mustard. He had about a cup or two of broccoli and cauliflower left that he hadn't served yet, and was too full to eat it. I ate it. Yes, that's right, I had some non-raw broccoli and cauliflower. Yes, not my ideal dietwise, and not 100% raw 100% of the time like I had been for over a decade. It is a long story how I pierced the 100% raw thing, and I will do a YouTube about it sometime.

Suffice it to say: I still believe 100% raw is probably best for me, and I have experienced the best health and vitality when doing so. Diet is only one aspect of health though, and I have other things I am focusing on more right now. Given the way my life is right now, this feels like the best balance for me. I prefer all raw and am working to get my life balance such that it works for me to do so. In the meantime, I do have some steamed veggies or dehydrated things at times.

I have never been convinced that dehydrating food is actually what I would consider raw. I have always felt better when I eat fresh foods, not dehydrated, not frozen, and that's how I ate for many years successfully. I am not certain that lightly steaming things for short periods of time is much different or worse than dehydrating them for longer periods of time.

One of the reasons raw is so good for us is the water content contained in the food naturally, so perhaps eating something more wet from steaming is actually better in that way than something dried. Yes, there's the temperatures involved, and certain vitamins are destroyed by heat... however I'm eating veggies primarily for their minerals. As far as I know, minerals don't get destroyed by heat.

There's the proteins and carbs that get messed with from the heat too, but I am wondering how much that comes into play with steaming vs dehydrating... and if the water content benefit helps offset it. I really don't know.

The main point here is: seems to me there's no doubt eating things entirely raw is better healthwise for me, but whether dehydrating or steaming are all that different than each other..or whether they can be healthy too is not clear to me. So, whatever the case, I try to avoid dehydrating and steaming, but will do one or the other now with vegetables at times when quality fresh raw vegetables and greens in the quantities I like are not as available to me, and haven't been for long enough. The video will explain this in relation to my life and go into this more.

I was going to wait until I had the blog categories more separated, but I just can't wait for that anymore. That means if you subscribe you'll be getting a larger range of topics. Later, when the new website is up I'll be sorting them by some popular more general categories for those who want to stay more focused on a certain area.

Those of you who want it all, well, you're in luck! ☺

I'll be posting about things in a somewhat random way for a while, and may settle into a pattern, but most likely not.

Missed ya', hope you are all doing well!

Do you have a favorite recipe from a different diet that
you'd like me to translate to 80/10/10 and include in my book?

Let me
know*, and I'll see if I can squeeze it in if I'm not already including
it.

Yes, that's right, I'm releasing a recipe book! The focus of the recipes in this book is not only in keeping with low-fat raw vegan, and 80/10/10 ratios, but also natural hygienic food combining principles, and minimizing the number of ingredients to achieve the recipe. Most of the recipes are nut-free, and many don't require a dehydrator. Recipes often include variations that don't require as much equipment or any dehydrating. Variations are also included with ingredient options for additions or substitutions.

Release Date:

Before I agreed to work at the FoodnSport Retreats this year I was in
the midst of finishing my recipe book. I planned to release it in
digital form by mid-November so you'd have it before Thanksgiving, or
possibly early December so it'd be ready for the Holiday Season. Now, I
still want to try to keep to my release dates, however it will depend on
how much I can do while I'm gone. There are hundreds of recipes and I
need to verify that the amounts and serving sizes are recorded correctly
by testing them all, and then photograph them. If I need to push back
that release date it will be released by early February, before

I was going to have a head of romaine too, but was full enough as-is. I've been having lots of veggies lately anyway, so I'm good.

Exercise: Like my food, my exercise has been variable, so not the same every day, but here's a sampling of one day...

Morning:

3.5+ miles on treadmill at 9% grade, and I can't remember what speed.. was slow so I could use the computer at the same time... between 2 and 3 mph

55 sec pull-up hold at the top (did 1 minute yesterday.. getting close!)

25 reps of bench press, 1 set

25 dips (assisted partly 'cause there's no room for my legs in the garage right now.. it's loaded with salvaged cabinets and such at the moment.. gonna' use them at the farm!)

25 deep squats in 30 seconds

50 each leg of back side to side lift thingies I invented, as quick as possible

20 minutes of light rebounding with a bit of upper arm isolation holds to use bounce as reps:

with palms down with arms straight, shoulder height, shoulders down:

30 bounces with arms in front, shoulders back

30 bounces with arms out to sides, shoulders wide

30 bounces with arms in back as high as possible, shoulders squared and wide

same with palms up

10? 25? spontaneous sit-ups when sitting down on the floor at the back of my treadmill to use it as a table to eat papayas... It's right beside the rack I keep the papayas on, so handy in that way. I put my feet under the end and it occurred to me that I haven't been doing anything to work on that little gap of ability I have in my ab range of movement's strength.. it's approximately in the middle of the movement. Long story short, my body was tweaked in a way for most of my life that made a tiny portion of the movement and movements like that not work.. it adapted somewhat, but I'd need to use my elbows for a nanosecond at a certain part of situps or have my feet under something to get past the gap. ANYway... it's been holding me back with some of the things I want to do in aerial dance so I have been working on it. I've got movement back in that area of my spine, and some nerve and muscle development going on, but it's been slow, and I haven't been working on it consistently enough to recover.... yet. For now, the pullups are a higher priority, but it's in there too, so... spontaneous situps are a good start, right? ;) Actually, I think the pullups are helping develop that area some too somehow. Nice! :)

Afternoon:

hour or so of cello practice.. different kind of "exercise" haha

1+ minute handstand in front of wall

10 jumping wide squats, touching feet in air between

picking mountain apples

The Rest:

I did some updates to this blog today and a bit more computer work. Some was while I was on the treadmill, some while at my desk. I pedaled some with the desk cycle thing I have there. It only has enough resistance to make it easier to pedal, and I consider it just something to keep my legs and body busy and happy. It keeps me from jiggling my legs instead. There's no mileage thing on it, and I don't time it, so I have no idea how much I did it. I don't do it the whole time, just when it occurs to me or I'm waiting for something and don't have the radio on. I'm really loving having the radio on though, as I can dance in my chair to the music and find out about local events at the same time! :) Fun! :) I'd like to get an adjustable height desk thing so I can lift things up and dance on my feet at times too. I'll let you know which one I get and how I like it when I get one. :)
Tomorrow I'm meeting up with the musician who wrote the music I've been practicing on my cello so we can play it together. She's playing her guitar and has a different part. The two parts go well together, and even apart. I really like it! :) It's called "Sunny Day." There may be another guitar player joining us as she was working on some new parts last time we got together. We recorded the two of us together and she's been working from that. Fun! :) It's nice practicing in the daytime because the birds, especially the shama thrush (white-rumped thrush) that likes the mountain apple tree, will sing along with their own parts. Swooning now...
Jungle Janiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06146873964335696708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6910790018481206386.post-90548534608401407032015-03-24T14:31:00.000-10:002015-03-25T14:32:32.890-10:00Silliness at the Bum Run 5k and my first Vine
It was a fund raiser and awareness raiser about colon cancer, and quite a light-hearted event. We had a blast. Get this folks--they had fresh fruit (apples, quartered oranges, bananas (that were actually sorta ripe), and grapes at the end for everyone too, and held signs that said, "You Are Awesome!" and "Have a Beautiful Day!" Inside there were other snacks, including some junk chips and pretzels... but they had way more carrots, celery, green beans, cherry tomatoes than the rest. Sweet! :)

I just love the community Seed and Plant Exchanges here!

It's so terrific to meet up with other people enthusiastic about growing and sharing plants!

“It’s a lot of fun, it’s really rewarding to be able to share seeds and plants that you’ve grown,” Massey said. “Sharing the passion of gardening is something that’s hard to explain if you haven’t done it but if you have, you’ll know what we mean.”

The community seed and plant exchanges actually started a few years before this article says, before Regenerations got involved, but they have been keeping it going and advertising it well for years now. Kudos!
